Check For A Gps Device On A Pc

Some GPS devices can resemble USB devices.

Global Positioning Systems connect to satellites that fly over an area in order to report your location. While this may provide some degree of convenience for travelers and those trying to get to a certain destination, this may also be used against the computer user. GPS devices can be used to trace your location, as well as where you have been. If you suspect this, you can try to find the device yourself.

Instructions

1. Inspect the hardware on the computer and the connections to it. Many times there will be a GPS dongle attached to the computer that links to the GPS Satellites in space.

2. Check the computer for software for dealing with the GPS. Check for GPS settings in the computer's control panel, or look in the Programs menu for proprietary software for configuring or using GPS settings.

3. Use a mapping program such as Google Earth or World Wind on the PC. Both of these programs have the capability of using GPS. If the GPS works, chances are your computer has GPS on it. (See "Resources" for additional programs)
