Manual SLR 35mm cameras load film in the back.
Single lens reflex cameras, also known as SLRs, capture images that most point and shoot cameras are unable to. SLR cameras are equipped with many features and functions that are frustrating to learn and understand. Entry level SLRs permit amateur photographers to become accustomed to aperture and shutter speed settings that are used while shooting photos. Those who are learning the art of photography will benefit from using both manual and digital entry level SLRs, such as those from Canon and Nikon.
Canon AE1 35mm Manual SLR Camera
Canon's AE1 series of SLR cameras are full manual 35mm film cameras, with durable hard body exterior, making it perfect for any beginner. The AE1 series was first introduced in 1976 and discontinued in 1985. Although cameras should be handled with care, this classic camera can certainly withstand bumps and bruises. The AE1 series manual cameras use 50mm lenses, which are much smaller than newer SLR cameras, making it easier for smaller hands to operate it. Canon AE1 cameras permit amateur photographers to learn about film and shutter speeds, which are adjusted by using the dial at the top of each camera. The speeds are indicated by a series of numbers to help photographers identify the right speed for different aperture settings.
Canon EOS Rebel G2 35mm SLR Camera
Canon's G2 35mm SLR film camera was created as part of the G series of EOS cameras, which features a lighter body with a plastic exterior and a 58mm lens. Unlike the AE1 model, this camera includes settings found on point and shoot cameras such as landscape, portrait and night shot, which most beginners are familiar with. The Canon G2 model comes with a built in flash that pops up when shooting pictures, and also features a hot shoe mount for a flash unit. Film speeds are automatically read by the camera and are indicted through a display window along with the shutter speed. Once the last frame is shot, the film is automatically rewound with the turn of the dial.
Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera
Nikon, undoubtedly, creates some of the best SLR cameras. Their digital SLR cameras feature consumer friendly products that make it easy for entry level photographers to shoot beautiful photos with ease. The Nikon D3100 digital SLR camera offers the feel of a high end professional camera, but with easy to use features. Entry level photographers can shoot pictures using one of the camera's 11 automatic settings and learn compose each shot through the "Guide" function with the turn of the dial. The Nikon SLR permits photographers to view and retouch photos through it's large LCD screen, even before uploading it to the computer. Video capabilities are also a favorable feature, as amateur digital SLR users can capture video in a 1080 progressive (p).
