When you're traveling around the world, your cell phone service usually becomes a problem. You can just shut it off and use the Internet, buy a bunch of calling cards, rent an international phone, or buy a global cell-phone plan. There are several options out there, so you just have to find one that suits your needs best.
Mobal Phone
If you don't want to buy a phone plan, you can make a one-time payment of about $50 for a Mobal phone. The phone will let you make and receive calls in over 140 countries, and you'll only get charged for the calls you make. You'll be given a phone and a phone number that is yours forever, but you don't have to sign a contract or pay a recurring fee.
TEL3Advantage
When you use this phone service, all you have to do is register your current cell phone number with it and you'll be able to make all the international calls you want. Rates start as low as 1.9 cents a minute and you can call over 200 countries. You will also get rates as low as 10 cents a minute when making local calls in other countries.
T-Mobile International Plans
T-Mobile beats out AT&T and Verizon when it comes to international traveling. Many Verizon phones don't work on a GSM network, so you won't even get service in Europe. T-Mobile phones will work on global frequencies and you'll be able to switch SIM card when overseas and receive local charges. You'll have to call T-Mobile and ask them to unlock your phone first, however.
