DVDs are long-lasting and durable, but dirt and deep scratches on the silvery play side can ruin a disc. A motorized DVD cleaner and scratch remover may help restore a favorite movie on DVD and prevent it from being turned into a coffee coaster. One clear sign the DVD needs a good cleaning is the dreaded "No Disc" error message that sometimes appears on a computer or TV screen when the DVD player fails to load the disc for playback. This is almost always the result of a scratched or dirty disc. Motorized cleaners can help solve this problem.
Instructions
1. Remove the DVD from its case, and hold at the edges with the fingertips or through the center hole to prevent smudging.
2. Spray a fine mist of cleaning solution on the shiny playback side of the disc.
3. Insert the disc into the motorized cleaner in the direction noted on the machine. The arrow printed or molded on the top of the cleaner points to the side the silvery surface should be facing when the disc is inserted.
4. Start the cleaner motor to begin rotating the disc at high speed. The motorized cleaner has a built-in polishing surface to buff out relatively minor scratches. Deep gouges may not be repairable.
5. Run the disc in the motorized cleaner for the amount of time directed in the instructions for that particular model. Typically, two or three minutes is enough time for a thorough cleaning and polishing.
6. Remove the disc by the edges and gently wipe away any excess cleaning solution with a microfiber cloth, then place the DVD in its protective storage case.
