Home theater setups with multiple components can be difficult to control due to the number of remote control units that come along with the devices. A great way to reduce remote-control clutter is to purchase a universal remote, which consolidates your remote controls into one centralized remote. Universal remotes are also a good purchase if you have lost a remote control and need a replacement. Magnavox manufactures some easy-to-use and affordable universal remote controls.
Code Entry Methods
Magnavox remote controls support a few different methods for entering codes for your devices. You can search the printed manual for specific product codes and enter them manually or you can have the remote unit search through its entire library of codes to find the right one. Additionally, you can search for the right code by brand.
Direct Code Entry
Find the specific code for your device in the user manual. They are categorized by device type and brand name. There may be more than one code for your product.
Press and hold down the "Code Search" button on the remote control until the LED light stays lit. Press the device type button on the remote control (TV, VCR, CBL etc.). Next, enter the four-digit code for the component that you wish to program. The red LED indicator will turn off. With the device powered on, press the "Power" button on the remote control. If the device turns off, you have successfully entered the code.
Try pressing other buttons on the remote to make sure it controls other functions on the device. If other functions don't work, enter another code for your device. Once you are done, write down the codes for future reference.
Code Search
Press and hold the "Code Search" button until the LED remains lit. Press the button that corresponds to the desired device (TV, VCR, CBL, etc.) on the remote. Press the "Channel Up" button, then "Power." Repeat this process until there is a response from the device. Once you have located the correct code, press the "Mute" button to store the code.
Code Search by Brand
You can find specific brand names in the code section of the user manual. They are numerically labeled 1 to 9. Press and hold the "Code Search" button until the LED lights up and stays lit. Press the device button (TV, VCR, CBL, etc.) on the remote control. On the number pad press the digit that corresponds to the device manufacturer (1 to 9). Press the "Channel Up" button until your device responds. Press the "Mute" button to store the code.
