Skygolf is the manufacturer of a popular line of golf GPS devices called SkyCaddies. The SkyCaddie is designed to give detailed information about a golf course as you play, including yardages to the pin, the green and hazards. These devices are easy to use and are known for their accuracy.
Button Layout
When you first purchase your Skygolf GPS device, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the layout of the buttons. The center button located just below the screen is used to turn the SkyCaddie on and off and to unlock the keypad. The keys to the left and right of the power button have varying uses indicated by text in the lower part of your screen, similar to a cell phone. Below the power button you'll find a circular button that can be rocked in four directions to navigate the on-screen menus. Four buttons are placed around the circular button. Clockwise from top-right, these buttons are Info, Hole, Menu and Mark Ball.
Pressing the Info button will display information relevant to the current hole, including course name, hole number, handicap and par. The Menu button will bring you to the SkyCaddie Main Menu. The Hole button will offer some information about the next hole. You can scroll through all of the holes of a given course by scrolling to the left or right with the circular button. Press the Mark button before you take your shot, and again when you reach the ball. This will display your shot distance.
Using The Skygolf GPS On The Course
Before beginning a round of golf, be sure you're outdoors with a clear view of the sky and your SkyCaddie's power turned on. Allow five to 10 minutes for the SkyCaddie to acquire the necessary GPS satellite signals. Once the signals are locked, the device will automatically recognize the course where you're located, so long as it has been preloaded into the SkyCaddie system. The device will then ask you which hole you'll be playing first.
The SkyCaddie features a variety of views that you can use during play. The IntelliGreen view shows you a graphical representation of the green for a given hole. A line will be drawn through the green, indicating a line-of-play depending on your location within the course. The numbers on the left side of your screen indicate the distance to the front, back and center of the green. Target views can be used to show you the distance to any landmarks present on your hole, including bunkers and water. It will also indicate the layout of the course, including hidden landing areas that might be ideal for shot placement.
