A digital converter box will allow your old TV sets to pick up digital channels. But it still must be connected to an analog antenna to work. With the help of a coaxial signal splitter, you can use just one antenna and split its signal to each TV set. You still need a separate converter box for each TV, unless you want them all to carry the same channel at once while only being able to change channels from one location. You'll need coaxial cables to connect the antenna and converters with the splitter, but RCA cables can be used for the TVs.
Instructions
1. Get a digital converter box for each set you are connecting to the antenna. If you connect one converter to multiple sets, all TVs will be forced to carry the same channel at the same time.
2. Connect the TV antenna to the signal splitter with a standard RF coaxial cable. This the thick black cable where the connectors have a small pin for the port's middle hole, and the circular edge is twisted across the threaded port. Use the single port that is by itself on one end of the splitter.
3. Attach more coaxial cables to the multiple ports at the other end of the splitter. Most splitters have two to four TV ports on this side. Connect each cable to a digital converter box's input port.
4. Link each converter box's output to a TV set. You can still use an RF coaxial cable here, but the converter box also has RCA composite output ports (for the three-way cables with the yellow, white and red ports). If the TV has RCA input ports, use this connection.
5. Connect the converter box directly to a VCR instead of the TV if the VCR is being connected to the set. The converter will connect to the VCR's "Antenna In" port. The VCR's "Out" port will connect to the TV.
6. Set each TV to the proper channel, depending on how it is connected to the converter box (or VCR). If you're using the TV's RCA input, tune the TV to its "video" channel. If you're using the coaxial port, tune it to Channel 3 or 4, depending on the channel the converter (and VCR) is set to.
