Multimedia Card Vs Sd Card

MultimediaCards and Secure Digital cards are similar in size and shape.

MultiMediaCards (MMC) and Secure Digital (SD) cards are two different types of flash memory. Both are generally used as storage devices for media players, with SD found more frequently than MMC's in video game systems.

Size

Both cards are roughly 24mm x 32mm with the SD card about half a millimeter thicker, 2.1mm v 1.4.

Function

MMC's are generally used for digital cameras and camcorders, personal desktop assistants, cell phones and audio players. SD Cards are also used in those devices, as well as the Sony Playstation and Nintendo Wii, some portable video game players and GPS devices.

Capacity

MMC's can store up to 8 gigabytes (GB) of memory, while SD cards can store between 4 and 32 GB's in high-capacity models, up to 2 GB's in standard formats and between 32 GB's and 2 terabytes in extended capacity formats.

Compatibility

MultiMediaCards are compatible with MMC and SD card slots, while SD cards can only be used with SD capable equipment.

Extras

Both cards come in mini and micro sizes. SD cards tend to have locking mechanisms to help prevent accidentally erasing your data.
