To use a Tracfone, you must purchase an airtime card that allows you to register minute plan purchases to your personal Tracfone for use. Additional minutes are purchased at any time, instead of a monthly charge and minute plan renewal, and added through your Tracfone card to your Tracfone to make and receive calls. Tracfone card minute plans can be purchased in denominations ranging from one half-hour to 1,500 minutes.
Instructions
Activating the Card
1. Turn on the power to your Tracfone.
2. From your other telephone, call the airtime card activation number, which is 1-800-867-7183. Although your Tracfone must be on to receive additional minutes, the system will not register the additional minutes to your Tracfone if you use it to call the automated system.
3. Press the button that corresponds to your language.
4. Press the "2" button, which tells the automated system that you want to add minutes to your Tracfone.
5. Select the "1" button to continue with the Tracfone automated menu service.
6. Enter the 11-digit serial number of your Tracfone and press the pound key. This number can be found on your Tracfone's battery.
7. Enter the 15-digit personal identification number (PIN) found on the Tracfone card and press the pound key again. If you have any promotional codes for extra minutes, you may enter them at this time.
8. Follow the instructions which the automated system gives you to finish verifying the additional minutes added to your Tracfone. Hang up the phone you used to call the automated system after verifying this.
9. Turn your Tracfone off and then turn it back on. This will finish the registration of the additional Tracfone card minutes.
Adding Time
10. Select the "Prepaid" menu from the main screen of your Tracfone.
11. Scroll through the menu to find "Add Airtime or Redeem Airtime" and select that option.
12. Enter the 15-digit Tracfone card PIN and purchase a minute plan from the menu. Tracfone card minute plans are available in one hour, two hours (120 minutes), 200 minutes and seven-and-a-half hours (450 minutes). There is also a one-year Tracfone service plan available that includes a one-time bonus of 400 minutes of Tracfone airtime; additional minutes must be purchased, but the Tracfone service will not expire.
13. Keep your Tracfone on until it registers the additional minutes you purchased. If 15 minutes pass and your Tracfone still doesn't register the purchased minutes, call the customer service line at 1-800-867-7183.
