The Nikon D200 is a prosumer digital SLR camera, designed for use by both average consumers and professional photographers. Nikon recommends using CPU lenses with the D200 (particularly type G and D lenses), though some non-CPU lenses are also supported. Focusing a camera lens on the Nikon D200 can be accomplished either manually with the lens focusing ring or by utilizing the camera's built-in autofocus system. Autofocus on the D200 can be controlled either by the camera's shutter release button or the AF-ON button.
Instructions
Manual Focus
1. Find the focus mode selector on the front of the camera. When facing the camera, the switch is located to the right of the attached lens.
2. Set the focus mode selector to M. This places the camera into manual focus mode.
3. Adjust the lens focus ring until the scene is in proper focus.
4. Depress the shutter release button completely to take the picture.
Autofocus Mode
5. Find the focus mode selector on the front of the camera. When facing the camera, the switch is located to the right of the attached lens.
6. Set the focus mode selector to either S or C. The single-servo setting (S) focuses one time and then locks the focus while the shutter release button is pressed halfway down. The continuous-servo setting (C) causes the lens to continuously focus while the shutter release button is pressed halfway down. Select S for stationary subjects and C for moving subjects. Fully depressing the AF-ON button can also activate the autofocus system.
7. Choose a subject or scene to be photographed. Press the shutter release button halfway down or fully depress the AF-ON button to focus the lens. The lens motor can be heard during the focusing process.
8. Depress the shutter release button completely to take the picture.
