Digital cameras contain a memory card, which is a small storage device that holds images and clips from your camera. Most memory cards have a locking mechanism that allows you to lock the card so that nobody else can write over the existing data. Fortunately, there is almost a way to unlock the card if you ever want to rewrite over the memory card. Sometimes, the locking mechanism may break off, but there is a way around this issue if you want to unlock the card to access the data inside.
Instructions
1. Open your digital camera's battery compartment, where the memory card resides. Slide the cover over and pull it down to access the card.
2. Press down on the memory card so that it pops out, and then pull it out.
3. Hold the memory card so that it is facing you label-up. The "chipped" corner of the card should be on the upper right hand side.
4. Find the tiny lever on the side of the memory card. It is always on the left side.
5. Push the lever up, which unlocks the memory card. If the lever has broken off, place a small piece of tape over the top half of the opening. Reinsert the card into the camera. The camera will read the card as unlocked, so that you can use it again.
