Vivitar Vivicam 5100 Instructions

The Vivicam 5100 includes a "sepia" special effect.

Vivitar released its 5 megapixel Vivicam 5100 digital camera in 2005. The device features light sensitivity options of either ISO 100 or ISO 200, a 4x digital zoom, special effect modes, manual or automatic exposure, white-balance presets (cloudy, sunset, daylight, fluorescent, tungsten, and light), an internal memory of 14 megabytes, and a JPEG still-image format. The 5100 measures 3.9 by 1.1 by 2 inches, weighs 3.7 ounces, and comes with a pouch, strap and USB cable.

Instructions

1. Install two AA batteries into the battery/SD card slot on the right side of the camera. Slide the cover lock open and insert the batteries in compliance with the plus and minus icons. Load an SD memory card into the same area if you wish to add extra memory to the camera. Slide the card in until it clicks. Close the battery/SD card door.

2. Turn the power on. The cover that protects the lens also serves as the "On" switch, so sliding it over to the left will turn the power on and ready the lens for a picture. The camera will emit a beep. Turn the camera off by closing the cover.

3. Move the "Macro" switch (located on the front of the camera below the lens) to the icon featuring a person by a mountain ("Normal" mode), and choose a "Scene" mode ("Auto," "Sports," "Night Scene," "Portrait," "Landscape" or "Backlight") that suits your photographic situation from the menu on the LCD screen. Take a close-up of a subject by sliding the "Macro" switch over to the "Flower" icon.

4. Compose your image within the LCD screen. Hold the camera steady, keeping your arms and legs still. Press the shutter release button slightly, which will automatically bring the subject into focus. Once the subject is fully focused, fully depress the shutter button and the image will be captured.

5. Zoom in closer to your subject by first pressing the "OK" button (centered in the Four-Way Controller), and then pressing the "Up" arrow. Zoom out from your subject by pushing the "Down" arrow. Once you're satisfied with the Zoom effect, press "OK" again to exit Zoom mode and continue with taking the picture.

6. Activate the Flash by pushing the "Down" arrow or the Flash/Trashcan icon. Choose one of the four flash settings ("Fill Flash," "Auto Flash," "Red-Eye Reduction," or "Flash Off") from the menu that appears on the LCD monitor.

7. Set the Self-Timer by pressing the Left arrow or Timer icon. In the monitor, a countdown time will be displayed. Press the shutter button to start the countdown.
