On November 4, 2009, Apple announced that its iPhone application count had exceeded 100,000. That's a lot of applications to organize but hopefully no individual person seeks to have them all on his own iPhone. When it comes to rearranging the applications on your iPhone, rest assured that it is a simple procedure, which is no surprise since Apple strives for ease-of-use when it comes to its products.
Instructions
1. Navigate to the home screen of your iPhone 3G or any screen with icons--which represent applications--on it. Above the four icons docked at the bottom of the screen, there is a gray dot (or dots) and one white dot. The number of dots represents the number of screens with icons and the white dot represents the current screen.
2. Press and hold your finger to the screen on the iPhone 3G on top of the icon of the application you wish to rearrange. After a few seconds, all of the icons on the screen will start to jiggle and the one your finger is touching is "picked up." Move it anywhere on the screen to rearrange it, or move it to the edge of the screen until the screen changes to move it to a different screen of icons.
3. Remove your finger from the screen to drop the icon. Some of the jiggling icons will have an "X" on their upper left corner and pressing that "X" gives the option to delete that application. Some of the applications will not have an "X" because they are vital to the iPhone 3G's operation, such as the "Phone," "Messages" and "Contacts" icons.
4. Press the "Home" button to save the changes made and the icons will stop jiggling. In order to reset all default application icons to their original places, touch the "Settings" icon and navigate to "General," "Reset" and "Reset Home Screen Layout."
