Edit Dvd Recordings On A Computer

Make and edit your own movies with a digital video camera and a PC.

Technology has become so advanced today that you can make professional quality movies using a digital camera and your home computer. After you have shot the video, plug your camera into your computer, connect it to a DVD player, or edit the disc directly from your PC. Then use video-editing software to add text, special effects or animation.

Instructions

1. Turn on your computer and open your DVD video-editing application. A few to consider using include Adobe Premiere, Video Studio X Pro, and Video Dub. These programs range in price from free to $199 as of 2011.

2. Create a project file for your DVD recording (these instructions are for Adobe Premiere). Click the "New Project" tab on your editing application. A new window will appear. Type the desired name for your project and then select a folder where you want to save it. When done, click on the "OK" button.

3. Make a connection between your DVD player or your digital camera and your computer. (This is only applicable if you are using a separate DVD player. If you have a DVD drive on your computer, skip to step 5.) The RCA cables should connect the "Out" ports of the DVD player or camera to the "In" ports of the computer. Check the cables used. The yellow cable is for the video while the red and white cables are for the sound. If you have an S-video cable, use it in place of the yellow cable to transmit a high-quality video.

4. Transfer your DVD recordings to your computer. Hit the "File" tab on your editing application and then click on "Capture" under the drop-down options. Power on your DVD player. The transfer of video will then start. Wait for the process to be completed. As soon as the video has already been transferred, click on the "Red" button and then turn off your DVD player.

5. Put the video on a layer of your file bin. To do it, click and drag the video to the timeline.

6. Start editing your video. To add effects, click on "Windows" and then click "Tools" under the options. Select "Effects" and choose the effects that you want applied to the video. Add text to your video, sharpen the picture, insert animations, create time lapse sequences, change the lighting and more. To erase the video, drag and drop it to the "Trash Bin." To move it over another layer, drag and drop it over the layer.

7. Save the edited DVD recordings by going to "File" and "Save." Play it back by going to "File" and selecting the video and clicking "Play."
