Dub Dvd To Vhs

Dub DVDs with a VCR and a supply of VHS cassettes like the one above.

Combination DVD players with a built-in VCR are available for dubbing tapes to disc or disc to videotape, but you can hook up individual components just as easily for making copies of your DVDs. The videotape copy will not include chapter stops like a DVD, since that is beyond the capabilities of a VCR. Also, some pre-recorded DVDs may be coded with copy protection that will thwart dubbing efforts. Homemade DVDs should transfer to a video cassette without any problems.

Instructions

1. Connect the three plugs on each end of the composite AV cable from the trio of jacks on the DVD player to the jacks labeled "AV In" on the VCR. Match the color of each plug to its jack.

2. Insert a blank VHS tape into the VCR and press the "Tape Speed" button on the VCR remote control to adjust the recording length if the DVD is longer than a standard two-hour tape. For example, set the tape speed to "LP" to record up to four hours or "SLP" to get six hours of recording time.

3. Eject the DVD player tray and place a disc inside, then close.

4. Press the "Play" button on the DVD player and the VCR's "Record" button to dub the disc.
