Upgrade Flash Memory

Upgrading flash memory takes only a few minutes.

Upgrading the flash memory on any electronic device like a computer or iPod requires putting in new memory cards and updating software for the latest available options. Flash memory saves data, such as pictures from a digital camera, and keeps the data until deleted. In the case of a computer, it is also used to help improve the computer speed in the form of RAM.

Instructions

1. Determine the appropriate memory card for the electronic device. Every flash memory card is designed for a specific type of device, such as a digital camera or an iPod. Look at the instruction manual from the device to find out what memory cards are appropriate.

2. Purchase the memory card. The cards are available on company websites, electronics stores and any location that sells the parts to electronics.

3. Put the card into the device according to the instruction manual for the electronic device. For cameras, the card slides into the memory slot. For computers, it requires taking off the back or side and sliding it into the appropriate location, which will differ based on the computer. Read the manual for exact location instructions.

4. Upgrade the software. Some memory cards will automatically start updating while others will require manual upgrades. The manual upgrades usually require searching for the appropriate updates on the Internet and then installing them according to the instructions for the update.
