A Yamaha receiver increases the sound quality and pervasiveness of a speaker system and allows owners to listen to either audio or video at a higher level. 2. Turn the "Bass" knob on the machine to the right to turn the bass up and turn the knob to the left to turn it down. Repeat the same steps for the "Treble," "Balance" and "Loundness" knobs that appear directly next to it.

3. Insert headphones into the "Phones" jack on the front of the machine if you would like to enjoy the sound through a set of headphones.
