Transfer Super 8 To A Dvr

Easily re-record old Super 8 cassette movies onto DVDs.

Current movie recording technology uses the DVD format to keep pictures and film files because this media is durable and has a very large capacity. However, previous formats included the Super 8 film cassettes. If you want to view those old family movies you have to hook up that old, almost-never used camcorder to the TV to view them. But that camcorder won't work forever, and it is best to transfer those old movie files to DVD format for safe keeping. You can do this by using a Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

Instructions

1. Turn on the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and the TV it is connected to. See your DVR instruction manual to install the DVR to the television.

2. Plug the Super 8 camcorder to the power outlet. You want the best recording possible, so you don't want you use the camcorder battery pack. Load the movie cassette you want to copy into the Super 8 camcorder.

3. Locate the "Line out" port on the camcorder and connect the red connector of the composite stereo cables to this port. Locate the "Line In" port on the DVR and connect the other red connector on the opposite end of the cable here. Connect the two white and yellow connectors to the "Audio out" ports on the camcorder. Do the same for the DVD recorder at the "Audio in" ports.

4. Connect one end of either an RCA composite cable or an S-Video cable to the camcorder. Connect the other end to the appropriate port on the DVR.

5. Select the correct input on your DVR using your remote control. Refer to your DVR manual. Generally, if you use the front cable ports you would select "L2," and if you use the rear ports it would be "L1."

6. Change your TV to the right "Video" mode, which may be "Video 1," "Video 2" or "Video 3." Use your remote control to make this change and refer to your DVR manual for the correct remote control keys to press.

7. Test your signal by pressing the play button on the camcorder. You should receive both video and sound signals on the TV.

8. Place a blank DVD into the recorder. Be sure you are using quality made DVDs. Press the "Record" button on the DVD recorder and the "Play" button on the camcorder simultaneously. The recording will begin.

9. Press the "Stop" button on both machines after the cassette playback is complete. Remove the DVD from the DVD recorder and play it in any DVD player.
