Use Flash On The Canon S3

The flash is always represented by a lightning bolt icon.

A smile can light up a room, but sometimes you need a flash to light up the room if you want a picture of that smile. In that instance, the built-in flash on the Canon PowerShot S3 IS compact digital camera will come in handy. The flash can automatically adjust its settings to the picture's available light. The pop-up flash can reach subjects up to 17 feet away and comes with features such as red-eye reduction and fill-flash mode.

Instructions

1. Raise the flash manually. Pull up and back on the flash, found at the top-center of the camera.

2. Use the flash button, found to the left of the flash, to choose the desired mode. The flash icon looks like a lightning bolt with an arrow at the bottom. Choose the solo lightning bolt if the flash needs to fire with each picture. Choose the lightning bolt with the "A" to put the camera in automatic mode, meaning the flash will fire whenever additional light is needed. Adding the eye outline triggers the redeye reduction process.

3. Use the camera's LCD monitor to frame up the photo and check the monitor to make sure the flash icon is lit up. If the icon is blinking, the flash is recharging itself and cannot be used.

4. Take the picture. When finished, push the flash back to the closed position.
