My Sony Minidisc Player Is Stuck On Eject

Problems with Sony's MiniDisc players' eject features are not uncommon. Internal mechanisms and errors when using the player are but a few of the causes that bring about these problems. Regardless of your tech know-how, you can fix some ejection issues on your own. Sony produces an extensive line of portable CD players, but these fixes are applicable to many of these handy portable Sony devices.

Partial Ejection

Some Sony MiniDiscs only partially eject a CD after pressing the eject button. This problem typically involves the device's gears becoming stuck, in which case gently pulling on the disc tray as it comes out of the player helps open the tray fully and allows you to retrieve the disc. Be careful when trying this troubleshooting method, as the device's gears are very sensitive and are prone to breaking if you pull too forcefully.

Clicking Noise

If your Sony MiniDisc player produces a clicking noise after pressing the device's eject button, the gears have a problem. Partially stripped gears allow the tray to open while making clicking noises, but the clicking noise indicates the gears are on the verge of breakdown. A completely broken tray produces a clicking sound but does not allow the tray to eject at all. In either situation, having the player repaired is your only recourse.

Improper Insertion

If your Sony MiniDisc player automatically ejects a CD after you've inserted it or fails to read it once it's inserted, several issues are at play. For instance, if the disc is not situated properly in the tray, such as slightly off-kilter or not fully in the tray's slot, the machine automatically rejects the disc and the tray ejects. If you've inserted the CD upside down or inserted a blank disc, the player will not read the disc properly. Check the disc for proper insertion when encountering this type of problem.

Portable Players

Some Sony MiniDisc players come in portable models and do not feature trays that eject from the main body of the device. These types of portable models require you to manually open the face of the device to insert and retrieve a CD. Check the device for evidence of damage or loose components preventing the disc compartment from opening or closing properly when you run into this type of problem. With the right tools, you can fix loose component issues on your own, but if the device has sustained damage, replacing or professional repair is your best option.
