Diy Ir Infrared Thermography Cameras

You can turn your camera into an infrared thermography camera with few simple tools.

An infrared thermography camera is one that reads a different part of the light spectrum and thus can see things that the human eye cannot. What most people don't realize is that all Web cams can be converted to an infrared camera. It just requires the removal of a simple filter. Although, once done, it will never function as a regular camera, you will be able to take pictures when it is dark.

Instructions

1. Open up your Web cam by prying it apart with the screwdriver. Be careful not to break it. A gentle rocking motion is probably the best way to separate the two halves without damaging anything.

2. Remove the lens and look for the CCD (charged couple device), which is behind the lens. It is rectangular in shape and will have a red piece of glass or plastic stuck to it. This is the infrared filter. Remove this.

3. Pry off the infrared filter with the screwdriver. Run the glue stick over the film negative. These should be cut into squares and be about the size of a quarter. Stick them onto the CCD and wait 30 minutes for it to dry.

4. Glue the camera back together with a strong, instant adhesive glue and wait 30 minutes for it to dry.

5. Take photos in the dark. While you won't be able to take photos in complete blackness you should be able to get what looks like a washed-out image when the lights are turned off.
