Troubleshoot Professional Karaoke Equipment

Test one connection input at a time to pinpoint the exact problem in your equipment.

Professional karaoke equipment often develops problems over time due to excessive usage or faulty hardware. A common issue may be sound-related problems, lyrics not appearing on its proprietary screen and/or incorrect functioning of the CD player. Problems may arise due to dust, scratched CDs and even loose connections. If your used karaoke equipment happens to malfunction or break down, some basic troubleshooting methods and tools can help resolve these audio-related issues.

Instructions

1. Check the function option that is selected on your equipment in case of sound-related issues. Professional karaoke equipment typically has several functions from which you can select. If you have selected the correct function and the sound-related issue persists, check individual components of the system (e.g. TV, speakers, etc.) to ensure that they are powered on properly. Confirm that the volume is not muted, and that it is turned up sufficiently. Moreover, ensure that the wires are firmly plugged into their respective sockets.

2. Check the video cable connection if the song lyrics are not being displayed on the screen. Typically, the "Video In" jack of the TV should be connected to the professional karaoke equipment. Ensure that the TV source is set to its main "Video" setting. Switch to the TV channel where the video output needs to be displayed to test the song lyrics' functionality.

3. Verify that the CD and/or CD player are not permanently faulty if the CD is not playing properly. Check to see if the CD has been inserted with its right side up. Try to play other CDs to ensure the problem is with the equipment and not a particular disc. If the professional karaoke equipment plays them, then the problem lies with a specific CD and not the CD player.

4. Wipe the CD that does not play properly with a lint-free soft cloth to remove potential dust. Remove scratches by applying and polishing the surface with polishing liquid/toothpaste. Rub gently for about five minutes with a lint-free soft cloth, then rinse off the polish/toothpaste under running water and air-dry before playing it again. If no CD plays, the problem lies with the equipment's CD player. In such case, open the CD player and allow it to dry for about an hour to remove moisture.

5. Ensure that all the cords are plugged firmly into the correct sockets if your professional karaoke equipment has power-related issues. Make sure that there are no loose connections and that all components of the equipment are powered up. Check the battery polarities and power if you posses battery-powered equipment.
