Record My Vcr Tapes Into My Camcorder

Make copies of VHS tapes by dubbing them on a camcorder.

If you own a large video library on VCR tape, re-record your movies on a camcorder to preserve and duplicate them for yourself and others. You can transfer VCR tapes to your computer from a DV camcorder by using a DV cable. Video-editing software such as Windows Movie Maker captures the VCR video and splices long sections of video into clips. Whether your camcorder uses digital or analog technology, recording your VCR tapes gives you the option of producing many additional copies.

Instructions

1. Plug your camcorder into the wall outlet with the AC adapter.

2. Connect your VCR video output to the input of your camcorder with an S-Video cable. Connect your left and right VCR audio outputs to your camcorder with an RCA cable. Use the cable's color coding to differentiate between the left and right audio channel.

3. Insert the tape in the VCR, and press "Play." Watch the video on the television, and adjust the color, contrast, balance, hue and saturation with the VCR remote control. Reduce the sharpness on the VCR to improve the playback quality. Press "Stop" on the VCR, and rewind the tape.

4. Turn the camcorder's menu wheel to the "Record" position. Press "Record" on the camera control panel, and press "Play" on the VCR. Press "Stop" on the camera and the VCR when the video ends.

5. Rewind the tape in your camcorder. Disconnect the VCR from the television, and connect the camcorder to the television with the same cables. Turn the camera menu wheel to "Playback," and press "Play" on the control panel.

6. Watch the video on the television to ensure that the camera recorded the video properly. Press "Stop" and "Rewind" on the camcorder to return the tape to the beginning. Eject the tape, or re-record your program if you don't like the first recording.
