Microsoft unveiled the Zune portable media player in 2006 as its response to Apple's iPod. The device can play a wide range of media types, including music and movies. The Zune runs off of a lithium-ion battery that needs regular recharging after periods of use. Occasionally, the Zune may not charge correctly. Troubleshoot potential reasons for your charging problems to help restore the device's power so you can continue enjoying your media while on-the-go.
Instructions
1. Turn off the Zune. Press and hold its back and down buttons simultaneously to power it off. A Zune that's left on while charging may not charge or may charge slowly since its battery is being used while it's being charged.
2. Let the device charge for a minimum of three hours before checking the status of its battery. Microsoft gives 180 minutes as the approximate time it takes to fully recharge the Zune. Unplugging it too soon may leave the battery insufficiently charged.
3. Verify that the Zune is plugged into an appropriate charging connection. For example, a computer that's gone to sleep will not provide power to a connected Zune to charge it. For the best results, connect the device directly to a power outlet using its AC charging cable. Alternatively, plug it into a high powered USB port that's directly on your computer (peripheral ports on USB hubs or keyboards may not have enough power to charge the device), an Xbox 360 or your car using the Zune's car adapter, according to Microsoft.
4. Contact Microsoft's Zune support line toll-free at 877-438-9863 if you still cannot get the Zune to function properly. Support technicians are available every day from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. EST. Your Zune may have a hardware fault that needs servicing.
