Troubleshoot Sony Video Cameras

Sony Video Camera

Troubleshooting your Sony video camera involves finding and resolving some of the most common technical malfunctions that arise from constant usage. Whether it's a power failure, focus problem or malfunctioned code, simple troubleshooting steps can be taken to ensure that your camera works efficiently, lasts longer and saves you money in repairs. Follow some of these simple steps in troubleshooting your video camera and bringing it back to optimum level to keep shooting the best footage.

Instructions

1. To trouble shoot a dark screen on the LCD display, open the lens cover then insert a fully charged battery into the battery slot. Turn the power dial to "Camera" mode. Open the LCD display and check for images. If the screen is dark and there's nothing, close the LCD display and use the view finder. Perform a manual reset to your camera.

2. To perform a manual reset, turn the power off on your camera, then unplug the power AC power cable from the camera. Remove the battery. Locate the "Reset" on your camera; it is a tiny hole usually on the top or on the base of your camera. Push a pointy object into the reset hole and push down until you feel your pointy object spring back.

3. To troubleshoot a camera that won't power on, remove the battery, then take a clean lint free cloth and clean the metal contacts where your battery goes, as well as those on the battery itself. A lint free cloth will not clog the battery compartment. Re-insert the battery and power on. If your camera does not power on, remove the batter and plug in the AC power cable to your camera and to the power outlet. Turn the camera on. If it still does not power on, try performing a manual reset.

4. If you see the power light blinking, open the tape deck, then place your camera in a dry area away from humidity and precipitation. One of the main causes of the blinking light problem is moisture. Avoid leaving your camera in moisture driven areas.

5. If your lens won't focus, apply the cleaning solution that came with your camera to a clean lint free cloth. Gently rub the cloth on the lens in a circular motion until it is clean. Never apply cleaning solution directly to the lens.

6. If your video is distorted during playback, then remove the tape, and insert the head cleaning tape that came with your camcorder. Follow the cleaning instructions in your manual, depending on the model of the camera. Some cameras may use a wet cleaning solution, and others may have a standard tape cleaning system.
