The term shutter speed refers to the length of time that a camera lens is open or exposed while taking a photograph. High-quality cameras tend to have large shutter speed ranges. The Sony DSC H1 is capable of using a shutter speed ranging from 1/1000 of a second to 30 seconds. Using the custom-set mode, you can adjust the shutter speed to suit your needs for a specific shot.
Instructions
1. Turn the primary dial, located on the upper-right side of your camera, to S mode. If you're in doubt about which mode you're in, look in the upper-left corner of your display screen. You'll see an S when you're in the correct mode.
2. Locate the shutter speed on the display screen to determine your current shutter speed and to see what the speed becomes when you turn the adjustment dial. The shutter speed is the first number to the right of the camera-lens icon on the screen. It's on the very bottom in the screen's center.
3. Turn the adjustment dial to set the shutter speed to your desired level. This small, horizontal dial is mounted on the front of the camera. Turn it to the right for a faster speed or to the left for a slower speed. Pay attention to the shutter speed on the display screen while doing so.
