Scan a Book in PDF Format
All-in-one printers modernized the small office by meshing the functions of a fax machine, copier, printer and scanner into one compact device. Many of these units include free software with ideas for projects and tools for easy use. A simple adjustment of the settings allows you to switch effortlessly between printing photos, receiving faxes and copying paperwork. If you decide to use your scanner to preserve and transfer hardcopies, such as books and letters, be sure that you have written permission from the publishing agency or copyright holder before proceeding.
Instructions
1. Install the scanner to your computer. Be sure you obtained all required drivers before installation.
2. Open the scanning program associated with your scanner. It may be located on your desktop or under your printer in the "All Programs" menu. In the program, click "Settings" or "Options" and change the output type to "*.pdf." Be sure to note the folder your scan will be saved to.
3. Lift the scanner cover. Open the book and place the first section on the scanner bed. Close the scanner cover. If the book is thick, you might want to place blank paper on the exposed surface of the scanner glass to prevent scanning the area around the book.
4. Press "Preview" in the scanning program and crop to remove the white space. Select "Scan" and wait. The scanning process may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, depending on the speed of your hardware, selected resolution and size of the book.
5. Open the "Destination Folder" to verify the creation of the PDF file. Repeat as necessary.
