Making a homemade TV antenna will allow you to watch network television. This is an alternative to paying cable or satellite prices. You can catch your favorite TV shows or local news without having to endure the cost for other channels. A TV antenna can receive analog or digital channels depending on your television. Even HDTV channels can pick up over-the-air with an HD television. With two speaker wires roughly 2 to 3 feet long and a solid metal hanger, you can make a workable TV antenna.
Instructions
1. Cut the sheath off both speaker wires. Use a sharp knife or scissors. Slice through the cover without touching the wire. Pull the sheath off with needle-nose pliers or fingernails.
2. Take both speaker wires and roll them together. This will attach the wires. Leave the remaining speaker wires separate.
3. Insert the attached end of the wire into the coaxial connection on the back of the television. Push in as far as possible. Then turn the wire towards the ceiling. The side of the speaker wire is touching the outside of the coaxial connection tab.
4. Tape the wire in place. Use two or three pieces of clear plastic tape around the wire and the coaxial connector. If the wire falls, apply another piece of tape.
5. Bend the top of the metal hanger straight towards the ceiling. Attach one speaker wire to left side of the bottom hanger bar. Join the second speaker wire to the right side.
6. Flip through the television channels. Move the hanger around to receive the clearest signal.
7. Attach the hanger to the nearest wall, ceiling or fixture. Double-check the reception. Nail or tape the TV antenna hanger to stay in place.
