Photography with blurry lights can be created with the help of a SLR or DSLR camera.
Blurred moving lights can create very interesting photographs. The effect of blurring moving lights in photographs is created by slowing down the shutter speed on your camera. Shutter speed is simply the amount of time the the shutter is open when the trigger is pressed. All SLR (single-lens reflex) and DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) cameras have adjustable shutter speeds. Many "point and shoot" cameras also have the ability to change the shutter speed with manual settings. Check the user manual for your specific camera to see if you can control the shutter speed.
Instructions
1. Use a light meter to determine the appropriate f-stop and shutter speed for the current light available. Set the shutter speed to two or three stops slower than recommended. Set the f-stop to two or three stops larger than recommended. The f-stop and the shutter speed work together, so if you change one stop on one you can change one stop on the other and still achieve a good picture.
2. Place the camera on a tripod or other secure surface in front of the area of lights you would like to blur. Moving lights, like cars or other vehicles, will blur the easiest. If the camera has a remote, taking photos with the remote will reduce any movement on the camera.
3. Take the picture. Depending on the shutter speed, the photo may take several seconds to be taken.
4. Experiment with these techniques. It may take some time to get the photos with blurred lights perfect. Digital cameras allow us to see the results of our efforts and, therefore, to tweak the camera settings immediately.
