Scan Microfiche To A Pc

Millions of newspapers have been archived using microfilm and microfiche.

Microfiche is a technology invented in the early 1900s and used to archive documents, newspapers and other print information on film. Microfiche slides preserve this information at 1/24th its original size, and microfiche scanners allow users to read the archived information and print selected pages.

With the growing popularity of digital data storage in the late 1900s, microfiche became less common. Services are available to digitize microfiche films, but you can also scan these documents to a PC at home with the proper equipment.

Instructions

1. Place the microfiche negatives on the light table and illuminate the table. Microfiche negatives usually contain seven rows of 14 images.

2. Attach the wide-angle lens to the macro digital camera.

3. Rest the front of the camera's lens directly on the microfiche, and use the camera's view finder to line up the page or pages you wish to digitize. You can usually fit two pages per shot.

4. Set the camera at high macro mode, and use manual focus settings to ensure all pictures are taken at the same focus distance.

5. Use the digital camera to take a picture of the microfiche negative. Repeat with as many microfiche pages you wish to digitize.

6. Load the camera's digital images to your PC, and save appropriately. These images will be ready to read and viewable in any computer's photograph viewer.
