Applications for the iPhone may be installed with a computer. Several unofficial software development kits (SDKs) are available on the Internet to create applications for the iPhone. The following steps will show create iPhone applications with a software development kit.
Instructions
1. Examine one of the unofficial SDKs such as the one available on Lucas Newman's website (see Resources).
2. Use the SDK to "jailbreak" your iPhone. This will allow files to be written to the file system of your iPhone. The specific procedure will depend on the version of firmware you are using.
3. Create a software development platform. The iPhone uses a version of iTunes that is supported by a 32-bit version of Windows XP or Vista and Mac OS X. The iPhone uses a version of the OS X operating system that has been optimized for the iPhone, although the differences between this version and the one on Mac desktops have not been officially described.
4. Study existing homemade applications for the iPhone. The SDK should contain sample programs to use for writing your own applications. These applications will not have Apple support, although they will be allowed on the iPhone unless they perform Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) unlocking.
5. Write iPhone applications for the Safari web browser in Ajax or Javascript. Safari will support third-party applications, but full programs may be officially installed on an iPhone only by Apple.
