Lexar is a well-known maker of memory products for computers, cameras and other electronic devices. Their SD cards are usually "plug-and-play," meaning all you have to do is insert the card into your device and it should operate properly. In some cases, the card may not work correctly or not be recognized by your device. This can be remedied by checking all connections and ensuring the card is set up properly.
Connection
Any device that is compatible with an SD card will include an SD card slot. If you look at the backside of your SD card, you will find a row of copper connectors. Whenever you insert the card, this end goes first and should be face down. Check the card slot on your device to ensure you are lining up the copper connectors with the receptacles in the slot. Some SD slots click into place or feature a lock to keep the card in, so check that the card is fully inserted.
Adapter
You may be using your SD card with an adapter, such as a microSD to SD adapter, or SD to USB adapter. Check that the microSD card is properly seated in the SD adapter, or that the SD card is properly inserted into the USB adapter. Also, check that the SD adapter or USB adapter is properly connected to the SD slot or USB port on your device.
Formatting
Some devices require your memory card to be specifically formatted to be compatible. For example, digital cameras need the card to be formatted to store photos. Most devices include a format mode that will automatically format the card. Refer to your device's manual for specific instructions on format a media card. Also, note that when you format a card, all of the data stored on that card will be lost. Always back up your important data before you format.
Lock Switch
If your device recognizes your SD card, but you are unable to write new data, the lock switch may be engaged on the card. On the side of every SD card is a small switch that allows you to lock the card, which will prevent data from being erased on the card and prevent new data from being written to the card. If the switch is set to the "Lock" position, return it to the open position so that you can write and delete data as needed.
