USB cable is a common way to connect your digital camera to a computer.
Some digital cameras are equipped with a feature that lets you display your pictures on a computer as you take them. "Tethered mode" requires a physical connection between the camera and PC or laptop. Common cable connections include USB and IEEE 1394, also known as Firewire. Check the manual for your digital camera to determine if it has the tethered mode feature. If it does not, the computer will automatically launch the camera's software for uploading images to the PC or laptop and you will be unable to take pictures while connected.
Instructions
1. Place the software CD that comes with your camera in the computer's media disc drive.
2. Install the camera software, following the screen prompts. Restart the computer.
3. Dial the mode knob on your digital camera to the tethered setting. The exact wording varies by camera model. If you do not have a knob on your camera, press the "Menu" button and use the navigational arrow keys to scroll through the settings. Highlight the tethered mode and press the "Enter" or "OK."
4. Turn the camera off.
5. Connect the cable from the port on the side of your camera to a compatible port on the computer.
6. Turn on the camera and wait for the software to launch on your computer. You should now be able to take pictures while connected to your PC or laptop, which displays the captured images on the monitor.
