The surge in GPS navigational systems have become a sought-after tool for cell phone consumers. The Blackberry Bold does have the GPS capability, but to enable this feature, you'll need to complete a few other steps after purchasing the phone.
Instructions
1. Consult your user manual. While there are several options for using the GPS, the manual may have a proprietary function or system that allows you to enable the GPS without outside support. Contact your Blackberry retailer if you are confused by the manual.
2. Follow the GPS locator instructions. From system options, choose "Advanced Options." Then click on "GPS" from the next list of options. Click on the "Menu" key. Last, click "Refresh GPS." This will enable the GPS on the Blackberry bold and display your latitude and longitude coordinates on the screen. You are ready to use the GPS function for navigation.
3. Learn to turn off the GPS system. In system options, choose "Advanced Options." Click "GPS." To turn off location aiding, change the "Location Aiding" field to "Disabled." Press the "Menu" key. Last, to finish the operation, click "Save."
4. Troubleshoot your GPS if it is not functioning. If you are near a building, move into an open area. GPS relies on satellites and needs a 'line of sight' to work. If your GPS is connected to a bluetooth system, ensure the GPS function is enabled on the bluetooth. If you are indoors, move near a window. You also may need to wait a few moments if you've just enabled your GPS so that it can configure your location.
5. Enable the navigation feature. Launch your browser. Click on "Applications." Choose the TeleNav GPS Navigator and follow the download steps. Once downloaded, open the application, follow the install instructions, and you'll be able to use the Blackberry for turn-by-turn directions.
