Transferring pictures from a memory card to a computer is easy when you have the necessary equipment. Regardless of the type of card you are using to store your pictures, the transferring process is generally the same. It consists of connecting your camera or card reader device to your computer via a USB cable, then transferring the contents.
Instructions
Transfer Pictures from Camera's Memory Card
1. Insert the memory card into your camera's card slot. Make sure your camera has enough battery life to last through the transferring process.
2. Plug the designated USB cable into the camera's USB entrance. Connect the other end of the USB cable to your computer's USB port. Turn the camera on and allow for your computer to begin reading the device.
3. Double-click on the "Camera Device" icon or disk that appears on your desktop. Expand the subfolders to locate the pictures (image files). Select all the pictures you wish to transfer and click-and-drag them to a specific location or folder where you wish to store them. Allow the transfer process to complete.
Transfer pictures using Picasa, iPhoto or other
4. If you like to use a specific picture-management application such as Picasa or iPhoto, first complete steps 1 and 2 of the previous section.
5. An automatic prompt will open up when your device is connected to your computer. Choose the application you wish to use for management of images. Fill out any album information or picture description you want to use.
6. Confirm the transfer of pictures in the application you are using and allow for the transfer to begin. Don't interrupt the program until it has finished. Don't turn your camera off during the transfer process.
Transfer Pictures using a Media Card Reader in Windows
7. Obtain or purchase a USB media card reader to transfer the pictures to your computer. Make sure the card reader supports the format of your card. Some prominent types of memory cards are SD cards, Compact Flash, Memory Stick, and MMC.
8. Insert your memory card into the card reader device. Connect the card reader to your computer using the corresponding USB cable. The card reader will appear as a "Removable Disk" on your desktop. A window opens up alerting you it has detected the device.
9. Choose the ''Copy pictures to a folder on my computer using Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard'' option. Confirm by clicking the ''OK'' button. The ''Scanner and Camera Wizard'' window opens up.
10. Select the pictures you wish to transfer to your computer by clicking on each of their corresponding check boxes. Follow the Scanner and Camera Wizard until you have selected the location where you wish to save this pictures.
