Install Garmin Software

Garmin GPS devices work great out of the box, but they also get even better over time. Garmin fully supports its products, and continues to improve its GPS software by correcting errors that slipped through testing, and improving upon features built into the device. In order to update your GPS unit, you require specific software available for no additional cost through the Garmin website.

Instructions

Install Garmin Software

1. Go to the Garmin website at http:///www.garmin.com/ and download the software for the GPS device. Click the "Support" tab, then "Updates & Downloads" to bring up a list of available software. Double click on "Unit Software" and download WebUpdater for your version of Windows or Mac OS.

2. When the download is complete, locate the executable, then double-click it to run the WebUpdater software. This guide uses the software for Windows XP, so the file is named WebUpdaterforWindows_242.exe. The program will open up to the WebUpdater welcome window.

3. Follow the instructions of the software, and click "Next" to continue installation. The next window will display the End-User License Agreement, a contract of intended use between Garmin and you. Make sure to read the EULA.

4. Check "I accept the terms in the License Agreement," then click "Next." A window with a progress bar under a picture will appear. If you want to stop the installation at this point, then click "Cancel" before the progress bar is full. The installation will take less than a minute.

5. When the window reads "Setup of Garmin WebUpdater Complete!", click Done to launch the WebUpdater program. Your Garmin software is now installed, and you can proceed to update your GPS device.
