Connect a Canon camcorder to a PC with Firewire.
Canon digital tape camcorders are equipped with a Firewire port (also known as IEEE 1394) for connecting the device to other components for high-speed transfer of recorded video. This makes it simple to connect to a PC with a Firewire port. A specific type of Firewire cable is needed for this hookup. The plug on one end must contain four pins for the Canon camcorder connection and the plug on the other end must have six pins for the PC connection.
Instructions
1. Turn off the Canon camcorder and open the Firewire port cover on the back of the camera. The six-sided port will be labeled DV OUT.
2. Insert the four-pin plug on one end of the Firewire cable into the Canon camcorder port, taking care to align the plug with the distinctive shape of the port. The plug inserts in one direction only.
3. Push the six-pin plug on the other side of the Firewire cable into a free Firewire port on the PC.
4. Turn on the camcorder and toggle the selector switch on the top to "Playback" instead of "Record." The computer should automatically detect the camcorder connection through the Firewire cable.
