Sell Used Cameras

Find the best market for your camera.

If photography is your hobby, chances are you have a lot of old equipment hanging around your home and studio. You can turn those old cameras and used photography equipment into cash if you know where to look and where to find willing buyers.

Instructions

1. Get a course catalog from your local community college. Look up the courses on photography and related projects. Find the name of the instructor and contact that individual. Ask if you can post information about the used cameras and camera equipment you have for sale. New photography students often need to purchase equipment, and those students might be interested in the cameras you have to sell.

2. Visit your local camera stores and ask if they sell photographic equipment on consignment. Many independent photography stores sell used cameras on behalf of their customers. Just make sure you understand the commissions and charges you face if you decide to sell your used cameras this way.

3. Research the value of your used cameras by checking the final selling prices of similar items at online auction sites. You might have to sign up for an account to see the final value prices, but it can be helpful to know how much your equipment is worth, whether you ultimately sell it through those venues or not.

4. Post your used cameras to online auction sites if you want to use them to sell your camera equipment. Check your auctions often, and answer any questions posed by would-be buyers promptly.

5. Seek out newsgroups and forums dedicated to photography and frequented by photography enthusiasts. Post links to your auctions, or descriptions of the used cameras you have to sell.
