Play Mini Dv Tapes

Play Mini DV tapes from any Mini DV camera.

Any Mini DV camera can play back Mini DV tapes on your television. Different cameras have different connectors. Some cameras have yellow, red and white RCA connectors, just like your DVD player or VCR. To save space, other cameras use a 1/8-inch jack and a cable that goes from 1/8 inch to Video RCA cables. Dedicated Mini DV tape decks are also available, but are generally expensive and meant for professional use.

Instructions

1. Turn on the camera or tape deck. If you are using a camera, switch it to "VCR" mode.

2. Press the "Eject" button on the camera to open the tape compartment. When the camera opens, the metal tape compartment will automatically emerge from the camera and open. One end of the Mini DV tape has a plastic cover that folds open to reveal the tape. Insert the tape that end first, with the exposed plastic sprockets on the tape spools facing the interior of the camera. If you are using a tape deck, insert the tape with the sprocket side down.

3. Push the metal tape compartment closed, and it will automatically retract into the camera. Do not press down on the compartment to push it into the camera. Most cameras have a warning sticker on the tape compartment on the part you are not supposed to push.

4. Connect your A/V cables to the camera or deck and television. Many camcorders use a 1/8-inch A/V jack. In this case, use a camcorder A/V cable that goes from 1/8 inch to RCA. Video RCA cables have three plugs: yellow, red and white, which connect to color-coded jacks. Yellow is video, and white and red are stereo audio.

5. Switch your television to "video," and press play on your camera or tape deck.
