Hook Up Strobes

Strobes are used in professional still photography to provide light to the subject when taking the picture. In reality, "flashes" and "strobes" are basically the same thing but photographers refer to the larger units that plug into the wall as "strobes" and the built-in mechanisms in cameras as "flashes." Many strobes connect to your camera via a cable and it is this connection you will have to make before using the strobe with the camera.

Instructions

1. Place your strobe near your camera and position it so that it is facing the subject you intend to shoot.

2. Locate the PC sync socket on your camera. This is the circular flash-connector port. "PC" is the universal term for this socket, which is what it has been called since the 1940s. This socket will usually be located on the side of the camera.

3. Insert the plug end of the strobe into the PC socket on your camera.

4. Press the "Capture" button on your camera. Now that the strobe is connected, it will automatically go off when you take a picture with the camera.
