Adjust A Car Graphic Equalizer

Adjust the graphic equalizer of your car stereo.

If you want to obtain the best possible sound from your car's stereo system, it is important to know properly adjust the graphic equalizer. Improperly adjusting your car's graphic equalizer can lead to a poor sounding stereo system and potentially cause damage to your speakers at high listening levels. Although graphic equalizers differ from car to car, most will contain three adjustable settings: "Treble," "Mid-range" and "Bass." (See References 1 and 2)

Instructions

1. Decrease the "Treble" control on your car's graphic equalizer if you feel as though your stereo is too "bright." As you turn the "Treble" down, you will notice that the higher frequencies become de-emphasized, making the music sound less bright. Turning the "Treble" down will also emphasize the relative volume of the "Bass" frequencies.

2. Increase the "Treble" control if you feel as though your stereo is too "dull." As you turn the "Treble" up, you will notice the higher frequencies found in cymbals, vocals and guitars become brighter and more emphasized.

3. Decrease the "Mid-range" control if you feel as though your stereo is too "harsh" or "present" sounding. As you turn the "Mid-range" down, you will notice the mid-range frequencies become less present and in-your-face.

4. Increase the "Mid-range" control if you feel as though your stereo lacks presence or is too "muddy." As you turn up the "Mid-range," the music should gain presence and become less muddy.

5. Decrease the "Bass" control if you feel as though your stereo is too "boomy." As you turn the "Bass" down, you will notice the low end, or bass, becomes de-emphasized. This will cause musical instruments like the kick drum and bass guitar to sound less "boomy" in your car. Turning the "Bass" down will also emphasize the relative volume of the "Treble" frequencies.

6. Increase the "Bass" control if you feel as though your stereo is too "thin." As you turn the "Bass" up, you will notice the low frequencies found in the kick drum, bass guitar and other instruments are more emphasized and full sounding.
