Hook Up A Vcr To Record

Despite the growth in digital programming and digital recorders, you can still use your Video Cassette Recorders (VCRs) to record your favorite programs on the television, allowing you to watch the shows you want when you want. In addition, you can watch one program on your TV while recording a different program at the same time. Hooking up a VCR to a television for this purpose is a relatively simple task and will only take a few minutes of your time.

Instructions

1. Find a place to position the VCR near the television. If you have an entertainment center you can place it on that, or if not, you may have to sit the VCR in the floor near the TV.

2. Plug the power cord of the VCR into the wall outlet. You may need a surge protector or power splitter if you are hooking up more than the TV and VCR into the same outlet.

3. Stretch one coaxial cable between your cable outlet and the VCR hookup labeled "Input," "In From Cable" or similar (the wording will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer). Screw the ends of the coaxial cable to both the cable outlet in the wall and the input part of the VCR.

4. Take the second coaxial cable and screw one end into the VCR adapter labeled "Out to TV" or similar and the other end into the adapter on your television that is labeled "In From Cable" (again the wording will vary based on manufacturer).

5. Turn the TV to Channel 3 and also turn on the VCR. You should now be able to flip channels with your VCR remote. Whichever channel it is tuned to is the channel that will record when you hit the record button. If you want to program the VCR to record at a later date or time follow the instructions listed in your VCR's manual.
