Xm Satellite Radio

About XM Satellite Radio

When FM radio was released, it provided users with clear, high quality music that was superior to AM. But, now XM Satellite radio has begun to take over the airwaves and give subscribers many advantages over FM radio. XM satellite radio is available all over the world and over 200 stations are available with a simple push of a button.

Features

XM Radio can be bought as a stand alone player or included with the purchase of a new vehicle. The radio works by receiving a satellite signal and transmitting the music through the player. Along with the audio, XM players are equipped with technology that tells you the song title and artist as you play. Stations play commercial free music usually 24 hours a day.

Function

If the system is bought by itself, then it must be installed through a simple wiring and antenna process through your speakers. Some versions of the radio can be removed and placed into an adaptable boom box so you can also hear the music in your own home. DirecTV subscribers also get access to XM Radio, with almost every channel available.

Size

Different XM subscriptions can be purchased for varying prices. If you want to receive XM radio through your internet connection, than it only cost $7.99 a month. If you are looking for a music or news package, then they are only $9.99 a month. XM Everything has every XM channel for $12.95 a month and this also includes access to the online XM radio.

Types

XM Radio features a wide variety of music and programming for listeners. The most popular songs can be found on stations like "The Pulse" and "20 on 20." Users can also search through XM radio for categories like "Pop," "Rap," "Country," "Rock" and "Children's." During the holidays, multiple channels like "Holly" and "Holiday Pops" play holiday music. Specific decades of music can be found with the "40s on 4," "50s on 5," "60s on 6," "70s on 7," "80s on 8" and "90s on 9." Famous celebrities also have shows on XM Radio including talents like Oprah and Jamie Foxx. Sports like the NFL, NHL, and MLB can be found on the station as well.

Considerations

Like any radio service, XM radio will have some connection problems. When the radio is connecting to the satellite, it may have trouble if the day is overcast, trees are blocking the connection, or you are in a covered area like a parking garage. Instead of static, the station just goes silent.

XM Radio recently merged with Sirius Satellite radio and now XM users can subscribe to the "Best of Sirius" to receive some of their exclusive channels like Howard Stern. This merger has kept most of the channels separate, but more changes could be made in the future.
