Trick Burglars With A Dummy Security Video Camera

It takes more than just a decent fake camera to trick burglars with a dummy security video camera. The placement of the camera, along with other elements of your "security" set-up, is crucial to convincing burglars that your home or place of business is protected by a high-tech security system.

Instructions

1. Research how real security cameras are placed around a property. Real security cameras tend to cover entryways or areas that are not readily visible to people, and if your fake is placed in a similar manner, a burglar will find this more convincing.

2. Analyze your property for the most attractive places for a burglar to break in or otherwise create mischief. Now determine where a camera would have to be to provide coverage for those locations.

3. Get the best dummy security video camera that you can find. Good fake security cameras are made to look like the real thing.

4. Place the dummy security video camera in such a way as to provide coverage for the locations that you determined to be at risk. The fake security camera also has to be visible to the would-be burglar to be effective. Remember, if the burglar doesn't see the fake, its deterrent value is nil.

5. Check the camera for alignment, just as you would for a real security camera. A burglar will examine the angles that the video camera covers and figure ways around the system. If the burglar cannot find a way, your property will be left unmolested.

6. Maintain a dummy security video camera in exactly the same way that you would a real security camera. Clean the lens from time to time, adjust the alignment, and so on. For outdoor cameras, keep the housing clean and free of dirt and debris.
