The HP Photosmart C4400 printer uses a color and a black ink cartridge to print your documents. In the life of the printer, you will need to replace the ink cartridges several times when the ink runs out. By following the correct ink cartridge replacement procedure, you can ensure the C4400 continues to operate at peak efficiency. Replace the ink cartridges in your HP Photosmart C4400 when a warning window appears on your computer screen, prompting you to change your ink cartridges.
Instructions
1. Press the "Power" button on the control panel of the C4400 to turn on the printer.
2. Pull open the paper feed door on the front of the printer and place at least one piece of paper in the paper tray.
3. Open the printer cartridge door, which is located above the paper feed tray on the front of the paper, to access the printer cartridge holder. The printer cartridge holder moves to the right when you open the print carriage door.
4. Press down on the left ink tank, which is the color ink cartridge, to release it from the printer cartridge holder. Pull it fully out of the holder and dispose of it. When finished, remove the right cartridge, the black ink, in the same manner.
5. Remove the replacement print cartridges from their packaging and pull the protective tape off of the ink nozzles. The black ink cartridge is HP 74, and the color ink cartridge is HP 75.
6. Push the HP 75 ink cartridge into the left printer cartridge holder slot until you hear a click, and then insert the HP 74 ink cartridge into the right printer cartridge holder slot. When installing the ink tanks, the HP logo is on top of the ink tank and the contacts face the inside of the printer.
7. Close the printer cartridge door and observe the LCD screen. Push the "OK" button after the printer has initialized and when prompted. An alignment page prints out.
8. Place the print alignment page on the scanner glass and press the "OK" button. The HP Photosmart C4400 scans the alignment page and aligns the printer head. The printer alignment is finished when the "Power" button indicator light stops blinking.
