Wire An Amp In Tri Way Mode

Car amplifiers have become extremely versatile and can be wired in a number of ways. Tri wiring is a way to run an amp in a stereo and mono signal at the same time. This is also known mixed mono or bridging an amp. Tri way allows you add a sub woofer while still amplifying your stereo speakers. By wiring your amp in this manner, you will sacrifice some of the amp's power output to your stereo speakers for the sub woofer.

Instructions

1. Disconnect the power to your amplifier by unplugging the fuse from the power source.

2. Look in the owner's manual or on the amplifier itself to determine which positive and negative outputs need to be used for a mono signal.

3. Attach fork terminals to the ends of the speaker wire. Strip the wire jacket with a crimping tool so that 3/8-inch of copper wire is exposed. Place the fork terminal over end and crimp with the tool.

4. Loosen the screws on the speaker outputs so that the fork can slide underneath the screw. The two terminals that will be used for the mono signal need to fit two forks underneath them.

5. Slide the stereo speaker wires under the four screws and the two mono wires under the correct positive and negative terminal. Hold them in place while tightening with a screwdriver.

6. Install the fuse back into holder and check for power.
