Troubleshoot An S8100

Make sure your camera is working properly.

The S8100 is a camera in the Nikon COOLPIX series featuring 12.1-megapixels and a 10-times wide zoom. It features image stabilization, high ISO sensitivity, and Nikon's new flash system, but to make use of all this camera has to offer it must be working properly. Some of the camera's most common problems can be solved with some simple troubleshooting.

Instructions

1. Charge the battery if the camera will not turn on or it turns off without warning. Insert the USB cord into the slot on the bottom of the camera and into the AC Adapter. Securely plug the AC adapter into the wall and check to see that the battery charge lamp on the back of the camera is blinking green.

2. Allow the camera and battery to cool down if the power-on indicator blinks rapidly. Use the camera only when the temperature is between 41 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The camera will turn off after three minutes of the power-indicator light blinking to protect the camera from overheating.

3. Press the power or shutter-release buttons, located on the top of the camera, if the monitor is blank when the device is turned on. This will take the camera out of standby mode.

4. Make sure the memory card is inserted properly. With the camera face down and turned off, pull open the memory card slot cover on the bottom of the device. Insert the memory card face up and slide it in until it clicks. Close the memory card slot cover.

5. Turn the flash on by pressing the "rotary multi selector" button upward until the lightning bolt image is highlighted on the monitor and press the "OK" button. This will help the camera focus on your subject and prevent blurry images.

6. Clean the camera's lens by wiping it with a soft cloth, if the image appears smeared or blurry.
