Repair Bearcat Scanners

Bearcat scanners allow you to listen to police and fire department channels.

Uniden Bearcat scanners allow you to listen to police, fire department and weather channels. You may have problems with your scanner if it does not power on, does not start scanning, does not stop scanning or has bad reception. Repair your Bearcat scanner by making sure the power cord is plugged in, adjusting the squelch, checking the antenna connection, making sure the channel is not locked out, storing the channel frequency in the scanner's memory and moving your scanner to another location.

Instructions

1. Make sure the power cord for the scanner is plugged into a working AC socket if the scanner is not turning on. Make sure the batteries work. There may be no power supply going to the scanner. If the outlet where you plugged in the scanner's adapter is controlled by a wall switch, make sure the switch is turned on.

2. Click the "Scan" button if the scan does not begin. Adjust the threshold of the squelch by turning the "Squelch" knob completely counterclockwise while the scanner is turned off. Push and hold the "Power" button for 2 seconds and turn the "Volume" knob clockwise until a hissing sound is heard. If your device is scanning, press the "Hold" button to stop it and turn the Squelch knob clockwise until the hissing noise stops.

3. Ensure that the channels you want to watch are not locked out. Remove a channel lockout by selecting the channel and pressing the "Func" and "L/O" buttons simultaneously until "L/O" disappears on the display.

4. Play around with the threshold for the squelch until your scanner works properly if scanning starts but does not finish. Check the connection for the antenna . Make sure the frequency of the channel you want to scan is stored in the memory. Wait for the channel to begin transmitting because the channel you want to listen to could be inactive.

5. Inspect the antenna if the reception is bad. Move the antenna to another location or readjust it. Reposition your scanner. If you live in a remote location, use a multi-band antenna with your device to get better reception.
