Memorial gifts are intended to honor the life of the deceased.
Memorial gifts are given to family members of a deceased person to honor or remember the life of their loved one. They often consist of a picture of the deceased, his name and/or his date of birth; however, the gift can also be something symbolic, such as a donation in his name or a statue of something he loved. Memorial gifts can be purchased from a store, business, organization or individual.
Photo Centers
Most photo centers sell custom-made gifts that can include personal photos, names, dates and/or statements. For example, you could purchase a photo blanket printed with various photos of the deceased or a memory box with a photo of the deceased etched on the top. Other items that can be personalized include wall art, jewelery, plates, mugs, frames, vases, candle holders, pillows and stuffed animals.
Jewelery Store
Many jewelery stores offer engraving services. To turn an otherwise standard piece of jewelery into a memorial gift that will be cherished for life, have the name or birth date of the deceased engraved on it. For example, you can engrave a name or date on the plate of an ID bracelet, the back of a watch or the front of a pendant. You can also purchase jewelery that holds a picture, such as a locket, photo charm or watch with a customizable face plate.
Religion-based Stores
If the person you are shopping for is religious, consider buying a memorial gift from a religion-based store. Examples include a photo prayer candle, religious statue for the home or customized religious artifact, such as an engraved rosary.
Cemetery
If the deceased is buried in a cemetery, you can contact the cemetery proprietor to find out what memorial gifts it offers. For example, some cemeteries allow family members to purchase a bench or statue with a personalized plaque engraved with the deceased's name. Other cemeteries allow family members to plant a tree near a loved one's grave in her memory.
Online
By shopping online for a memorial gift, you are able to view a variety of products from many stores. You can also use the Internet to make a donation in the deceased's name, find a freelance artist to paint a portrait or sculpt a statue of the deceased or download a slide smake a memorial video.
