Troubleshoot A Tomtom Go

The TomTom GO is a line of GPS systems that can be installed in a car as a way to provide navigational information. The TomTom GO GPS systems include features like advanced map guidance, detailed maps of regions, hands-free calling and an FM transmitter. Two GPS units from the GO line include the TomTom GO 530 and the TomTom GO 730. If you have difficulty with one of these units, try the following troubleshooting techniques before contacting the company's support service.

Instructions

1. Move to an area where you have a clear view of the sky. You may lose the GPS signal if you find yourself in an area where the sky is obstructed by trees or buildings. Once you have driven away from the obstructed area, service of your TomTom GO should be restored.

2. Reset the TomTom GO if it will not operate or the screen is frozen. To reset the unit, remove it from the car cradle. Locate the small reset hole at the base of the model. Place a pin or paper clip end through the hole to reset the TomTom GO.

3. Update the software and driver for your TomTom GO. You may experience issues if you are using an outdated version of the software made available through TomTom. To commence with the update, go to the TomTom Website and check the "Support" page. If an update is available, download it to your PC. Sync it onto your TomTom GO unit by connecting the included USB cable.

4. Replace the fuse of the power adapter. If the TomTom GO is not receiving power, you may have to replace the fuse found in the 12V DC power cord. Pull off the head of the cord and install a new fuse.
